Maulud Rasul

On 5th February 2012 Brustol members gathered in the Richard Blandine's Room of the Student's Union to observe the birth of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W and to celebrate it with food and good company.

Brunei Students from the University of West of England and the University of Bristol brought an assortment of snacks and treats to liven up the event, most of which were homemade Bruneian favourites. As we waited for all the members to arrive, we did some catching up with Brustol members and shared battle stories of the Brustol Paintball activity which occurred the day before.

At 3.00 pm, the event kicked off with our very own, Haq Johar who gave us an enlightening introduction to the activity planned for us. The main purpose of the event was to recall our knowledge of Prophet S.A.W and his past. As Haq so accurately put it, it is only natural to know as much as you can about our loved ones, which goes the same for our Prophet S.A.W. Also, by recalling the history of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, we can learn from his actions and to appreciate him more. It was a simple yet enjoyable activity where Haq would recall the life of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W and he would have us fill in the blanks with our knowledge of the event, correcting us if we made any mistakes. By covering the key events of Prophet Muhammad's past at the same time the growth of Islam, the event lasted until 4.30 pm.

We then proceeded to perform the Asr prayers and the event ended with an hour or so of good food and laughter. With so many Bruneians under one roof, it almost felt like being back home.

It was undoubtedly a very successful event and many thanks to the hardworking committee members for organizing it so well. Not to forget all the members who so graciously brought food and drinks to the event. Until next time Bristol!
